植物の細胞の一部には、アミロプラストと呼ばれる、重力を検知する色素体が存在し、植物が地面に対し垂直に成育するには、その色素体が大きく影響しています。色素体が重力を感知し反作用する形で植物は成長しています。私たちでいう三半規管のような機能です。 植物と同じように、元来彫刻も、地球の重力に反作用する形で存在しようとしてきました。 地球の力の影響を受けるはずの彫刻そのものが重力を生み出すことで、絶対的な存在である重力そのものを問うと同時に、重力に内在する地球の自転による遠心力を表層化することすら可能なのではないかと考えています。 この映像では回転運動を介して植物に遠心力を与えることで、遠心力を重力として植物に勘違いさせることで、植物の成長を歪ませることを目標としています。 撮影のために回転装置を制作し、カメラと共に「Pisum sativum」の若芽、いわゆる「豆苗」を回した7時間の記録です。そして見事に遠心力を受け回転軸方向である、画面右側に向かって成長してくれました。 これまでも、同様のコンセプトの中で、重力を操作する装置を制作しています。しかし、植物の成長を観測するためには装置を停止させ回転運動を止める必要がありました。それは同時に擬似重力をを失うことを意味します。この作品は擬似重力の中で撮影・観測する新たな試みです。 ※この作品は、映像データ作品になります。9/16以降に、ウォレット内で映像データへ変換されます。 Some plant cells contain gravity-sensing plastids called amyloplasts, and these plastids greatly influence a plant's ability to grow perpendicular to the ground.
